The journey

Rooted in Louisiana.
Shaped by service.

Born in Shreveport and raised across Louisiana and East Texas, D. W. Landreaux grew up among the landscapes, traditions, faith, and complicated family histories that would later shape his fiction.

Adopted at birth, he understands the enduring pull of unanswered questions about identity and belonging. Those questions—along with the influences of family, loss, faith, service, and growing older—form the emotional ground beneath his work.

Landreaux devoted more than three decades to military and public service. He served around the world as an Air Force health services administrator, retired at the rank of colonel, and continued his career as a senior federal executive working at the intersection of healthcare, policy, and national service.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Louisiana State University and an MBA from Louisiana Tech University. Through every chapter of his career, Louisiana remained home in memory—the place where the oldest questions began.

Why fiction

“Fiction gave me room to tell emotional truths that were too close to state plainly.”
— D. W. Landreaux

The writing

Fiction with
emotional truth.

The Name They Gave Me: A Novel of Family and Reckoning is Landreaux’s debut novel—a Southern story about adoption, identity, family, faith, resilience, and the courage to face what has been hidden.

The novel is not a memoir. Fiction gave him room to explore emotional truths that were too close to state plainly, allowing memory and imagination to meet without making Daniel’s life a retelling of his own.

After a career built around leadership and service, Landreaux is beginning a new chapter devoted to writing stories that ask difficult questions without offering easy answers. He created Landreaux Cypress Press as the home for that work.

He lives in Virginia with his wife, Roxanne, and remains closely connected to the people, places, and stories of Louisiana.
